Santa Clarita & The San Fernando Valley Water Filtration & Softeners

Hard water scales water heaters, tankless units and fixtures. What you can install to treat it depends on where you live, and in the Santa Clarita Valley the rules are stricter than most people know.

Sounds familiar?

  1. White crustScale on faucets, shower heads and glass means hard water.
  2. Noisy water heaterPopping as it heats is scale and sediment in the tank.
  3. Tankless errorsScale in the heat exchanger shows up as errors and weak heat.
  4. Taste or odorChlorine taste or a smell is a filtration job, not softening.

How We Handle Water Filtration & Softeners

Hardness is calcium and magnesium dissolved in the water. It's not a health problem, but it leaves scale everywhere water is heated or left to dry: inside a water heater, in a tankless heat exchanger, on shower glass and faucets.

A whole-house filter treats taste, odor and sediment. A reverse osmosis system under the sink gives drinking water with most minerals removed. A softener removes the hardness itself, and that's where local rules come in, because a softener that regenerates with salt sends that salt down the drain.

Before we recommend anything, we look at what your water supplier publishes for your water and what's allowed at your address. Your city's page on this site shows both.

Water Filtration & Softeners Questions

Do I need a water softener?

Not always. If scale is the problem, a softener addresses it, where one is allowed. If taste or odor is the problem, filtration is the answer. We check your supplier's hardness numbers first.

Is a water softener good for a tankless water heater?

Hard water is the main reason a tankless heat exchanger scales up, so treating it can lengthen the time between flushes. Where a salt softener isn't allowed, other options exist, and we'll go through them.
